Based in Oxford, I am a retired psychiatrist and Jungian psychotherapist still active in the field of Climate Psychology.
Following medical training and work as a Consultant Psychiatrist, I trained as a Jungian Analytical Psychotherapist with the West Midlands Institute for Psychotherapy. I worked in independent practice from 1995 until my retirement from clinical work in 2026.
Throughout my career I have been interested in the relationship between our inner psychological lives and the wider social, political and ecological worlds. I was chair of the steering group of Psychotherapists and Counsellors for Social Responsibility for some years. It was through their work that I developed a particular interest in the psychological aspects of Climate Change and the environmental and biodiversity crises with which it co-exists . I chaired the Climate Psychology Alliance in UK from 2020 to 2024 having played major roles in its development since it founded. I have collaborated with organisations including Royal College of Psychiatrists and Climate Minds Coalition. In Oxford I am involved with a group offering in-person Climate Cafés and most recently facilitating discussions after showings of the film People's Emergency Briefing
Alongside this work I co-edited Being a Therapist in a Time of Climate Breakdown (Routledge 2024) and my latest co-edited book The Routledge International Handbook of Mental Health and the Climate Crisis will be published in 2027.
